Their tribe population increased so much that there was not enough food for them to eat and feed their cattle. So to control the population the chief declared that all the new born babies should be killed in his tribe. Even Iaca had a new born baby who was killed according to the chief’s order. Iaca cried and locked herself in her small hut for weeks. One day she hard a baby’s cry and she ran out of the hut. She tried to find out the baby and suddenly saw a palm tree covered with fruits. Iaca lied down under the palm tree and she died. The tribe’s men found Iaca’s dead body under the tree next day. The fruit from the tree was good enough to eat and so the tribe started eating the berries which brought an end to the food scarcity. The chief again declared that no more babies are to be killed because they have enough food for their tribe. From then onwards the fruit was named as Acai Berry to remember Iaca.
